What Our Team Say About Backrests, Pillows And Supports?

Our dedicated team have spent many years working in the mobility aids and daily living products sector. They are very knowledgeable about the products we sell. They work with Kate Makin, our Occupational Therapist, to ensure that they provide the best advice when it comes to information about our thousands of mobility aid products.

What Are The Benefits Of Backrests, Pillows And Supports?

Back pain is one of the most common medical complaints in the UK and has been reported to cost the UK economy around £10 billion per annum. Approximately 80% of the population will suffer from some sort of back pain at some point during their lifetime. Many people seek medical advice from their GP or a chiropractor for this debilitating condition and, frequently, they are informed that the correct pillow or support in bed will help to make a big difference.

Back rests are particularly useful for anyone who has acid reflux (indigestion) as it provides an incline which helps the acid to remain in the stomach. The mobility aids also provide support whilst seated, or propped up in bed, providing more support than pillows alone.

A good pillow is worth its weight in gold, in terms of helping with a good night’s rest. The right pillow makes all the difference to the quality of sleep we get.

Supports for use in the bed are good for ensuring the correct positioning of the body whilst laying down.

What Different Backrests, Pillows And Supports Do You Offer?

Backrests are available in the form of foam wedges or as a metal structure with strong fabric stretched across. The bed wedge can be placed either short side down (long side up) which provides a good support to sit up and rest against, or long side down (short side up) which provides a gradual incline to lie on whilst sleeping. The metal style backrest is adjustable, so you can obtain the exact incline required whether sitting up or laying down. Using a backrest is particularly useful for anyone who has acid reflux (indigestion) as it provides an incline helping acid to remain in the stomach.

Our range of pillows includes the cooling gel pillow which is perfect for anyone who struggles with overheating in the night (and it provides a good alternative to constantly turning your pillow over to find a cool spot!).

We also stock a range of orthopaedic pillows including the very popular Harley range. These promote the correct neck position whilst sleeping, reducing the likelihood of aches and pains in the neck and back.

Very popular pillows include the V shape and batwing-shaped ones. These provide a triangular support to the sides of your body and your shoulders.

The bed sitter support cushion is specifically designed for sitting up in bed. It provides a firm support for your back and also side supports which include pockets, ideal for keeping items close by.

Supports include knee supports which help align your spine whilst laying down, which is again good for those who suffer with back pain. We also sell leg supports or leg raisers, which keep your legs raised whilst in bed.

What Should I Consider When Choosing A Backrest, Pillow Or Support?

Firstly, consider the size of the bedroom aid to ensure that it will fit safely on your bed. Then secondly, the style of the item, particularly if the product will be on show, as you will want it to fit in with your bedroom’s décor. But most importantly you should ensure that the bedroom aid you are selecting is suitable for your specific requirements – if you are unsure why not have a read of our guide here
