International Day of Charity

Posted by Francis Whitehead on September 5, 2023

International Day of Charity

The International Day of Charity is an international day that falls on the 5th of September every year. Declared by the United Nations in 2012, the purpose of the International Day of Charity is to provide a common platform for charitable organisations and philanthropic causes as well as raise awareness of the importance of contributing to a cause that means a lot to you around the world.

To celebrate this special day every year, the work of different charities all over the world is publicised and celebrated, and people are encouraged to donate time and money to carry out charitable works and educate people about their chosen causes.

Why Be Charitable Today?

Today is a day to think of those less fortunate than you, and those who require help the most.

We can sometimes take things in our life for granted, but it's important to remember that some people don't have basic necessities in their lives.

Today on the International Day of Charity, we at Ability Superstore want to show you some charities that mean a lot to us.

Alzheimer’s Society

The Alzheimer's Society are a driving force in the research of dementia, and aims to work towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. There are currently estimated to be 900,000 people in the UK with dementia, many of which are undiagnosed.

The Alzheimer’s Society provides a wealth of resources that can help towards a diagnosis, and all the support you could need to make sure no one faces their condition alone.

In the past 12 months, they have helped:

  • 92,000 people access direct support
  • 1,500 people every week reach out to the Dementia Connect Support Line
  • 54,000 calls to combat loneliness
  • Push the government to address the ongoing issues people in care homes and their families are facing
  • 73,000 people access peer support on their online community

You can make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society here.
